Did Terrorism Affect Voting in the Brexit Referendum?

Abstract This article contributes to the recent research on Brexit and public opinion formation by contending that determinants of referendum results should be evaluated against background wider security concerns. The British has long regarded terrorism as a top concern, more so than in any other European country. Terrorist attacks UK soil raised voters' awareness issues their saliency context EU referendum. study finds locations affected terrorist violence proximity exhibit an increase share pro-Remain votes, particularly those experienced sensational attacks. Using individual-level data, show aftermath attacks, citizens are likely reconsider risks involved leaving EU.
